Available shifts

  • This position will work 10-15
  • per week with a flexible
  • Monday through Friday during regular university business
  • will be coordinated with the selected student based on their class
  • and the department’s needs.
  • Occasional attendance at university events outside the intern’s regular
  • may be requested with advance notice.
  • Student employees can work up to 19.

What you'll do

  • Support presidential, public affairs and university communications efforts Assist with drafting and editing campus communications, announcements, briefing materials and other written content.
  • Conduct research and gather information to support presidential remarks, talking points and communications.
  • Assist with communications related to university priorities, initiatives and issues affecting Nevada State and higher education.
  • Assist with public affairs, government relations and community engagement Research higher education, government and public policy issues relevant to Nevada State University.
  • Assist with preparing background materials and briefings for meetings with community leaders, elected officials, government partners and other external stakeholders.
  • Help track legislative, governmental and community issues that may affect the university.
  • Support university efforts to strengthen relationships with community and public-sector partners.
  • Assist with digital communications and university storytelling Help develop content highlighting university programs, events, students, faculty and staff.
  • Assist with content for university digital platforms, including web, email and social media.
  • Identify potential stories and gather information, quotes and other content from members of the campus community.
  • Support presidential, university and community events Assist with planning and coordinating events involving the Office of the President.
  • Help prepare event materials, communications, guest information and logistical materials.

What you'll bring

  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Applicants must meet the posted
  • at the time of application in order to be considered for the position.
  • Students who are majoring in Communication, Visual Media, History, History - Pre-Law, Interdisciplinary Studies, Business and Criminal Justice.
  • Students pursuing a related minor, such as Communication, Creative Writing, Visual Media or Business, are also encouraged to apply.
  • Coursework or experience in public speaking, professional writing, journalism, digital media, research methods, government, public policy, marketing, graphic design or multimedia production would benefit a student in this role.
  • Strong writing, editing, research and verbal communication skills, along with attention to detail, organization and an interest in public affairs, government, media, higher education or community engagement.
  • Experience with student government, a student publication, social media, event planning, community service or a government or nonprofit organization would also be valuable.
