SUMMARY:Celebrate Fil-Am Month - Explore Poetry with Collage
LOCATION:Clark County Library
DESCRIPTION:Using archival materials\, students will produce a hybrid poem 
 and collage on limited edition "One Down" letterpress prints. Participants
  will learn about the historical significance of the Filipino phrase "isan
 g bagsak" from the farm workers' movement of the 1960's-1970's and how lan
 guage helped create solidarity. Participants will be invited to reflect on
  movements important in their own lives and how they might integrate words
  and images to connect with this moment in Fil-Am history. All creative le
 vels welcome with materials provided. Program is co-presented by Kundiman 
 Mountain West.\n\nAbout the author: JM Huck is a third year creative writi
 ng MFA candidate at UNLV and chair of the Mountain West region of Kundiman
 . Her poetry & essays have appeared in nearly 40 publications\, and her fi
 rst collection is forthcoming. Previously Huck worked as the Clark County 
 poet laureate coordinator. Recently\, she learned letterpress printing at 
 Penland School of Craft and made the supplied prints/collage backgrounds o
 n an antique press in Phoenix.\n\nAbout the artist: Originally from Aotear
 oa/New Zealand\, Jo (JK) Russ relocated to Las Vegas in 2010 and is known 
 for her surreal collage works where high fashion\, high art and hybrid hum
 an/creatures merge. She has created large-scale interactive collage instal
 lations for the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas\, the Delano Hotel\, Marjorie Ba
 rrick Museum of Art\, Meow Wolf Santa Fe and the Life Is Beautiful festiva
 l\, and currently works as faculty at Nevada School of the Arts (NSA).\n\n
